Installing KNotes in your Plone portal

Installation of KNotes in a Plone portal

Install/Uninstall

Befor you complete these steps you need to have preconfigured your RDBMS (PostgreSQL/MySQL) as you will need to provide authentication details in the final setup stage. Also ensure that you have installed any dependencies

Ensure you have the following information:

  • DBMS Database Name
  • DBMS Username
  • DBMS Hostname
  • DBMS password

Follow these easy steps to install KNotes into your portal:

  1. If you have not already done so, download and extract KNotes into your products directory then restart Zope
  2. Navigate to the portal_quickinstaller tool and select 'KNotes' then click 'Install'. If all went well, you should see KNotes listed under 'installed products', click on the listing to view the results (http://ZOPE_SERVER:ZOPE_PORT/YOUR_PORTAL/portal_quickinstaller/KNotes) it should look something like:

     Added 'KNDiscussion, KNBlogEntriesFolder, KNWeblog & 'KNBlog' to use_folder_tabs property in site properties
     Added Trackback Tool
     Added BlogAPI Tool
     Added new 'Moderator' & 'Weblog Contributor' roles
     Set the portal permissions for all types!
     Added here/trackback_portlet/macros/portlet to the left slots
     Added here/rdf_portlet/macros/portlet to the left slots
     Added portal actions
     Successfully installed KNotes.
     
    Any abnormalities should be noted and a bug report filed
  3. After completing step 2 above, you should now have some additional tools in the root of your portal. Click on the tool labeled 'kndiscuss_sql' (http://ZOPE_SERVER:ZOPE_PORT/YOUR_PORTAL/kndiscuss_sql/manage_properties) then select the tab labled 'DB Access'

    Enter the required details and click 'Save Changes'
  4. Click the tab labeled 'DB Status' you should see a page similar to the one below

    Click 'Create Tables' to complete the install. CLicking the 'DB Status' tab again should display a table with details of your database schema

That's the installation complete, you can now start using KNotes or you may want to go read up on KNotes Administration
