I'm originally from Nova Scotia, on the East Coast of Canada [ map ]. I've lived and worked in Edinburgh and Manchester, but I've spent most of the last 15 years in Bangor, Gwynedd [maps ].
I am a software architect / engineer / designer / dogs-body / director here at KnowNet. I've been in computer science since about 1980, so I guess this is my career, but I feel as if I'm only doing this for childcare/mortgage money, and that when I grow up I'll be a philosopher or writer, or maybe a carpenter :o) Before that I was a freight-handler for the CNR for 10 years, going to university as a mature student to study Math when the big layoffs of the late 70's hit the railroad. I'm married to the wonderful Hilda. Two of her children are still living at home: Jake and Florence. I have 5 great and talented kids of my own, mostly grown-up now, living in Canada and Scotland.
